Treatment Requirements
All of our standard buildings are supplied externally treated to provide initial protection during delivery and installation.
To maintain the longevity of your building, it is essential that you apply a high-quality timber treatment immediately after installation, and then re-treat annually.
Regular treatment helps protect against moisture ingress, fungal decay, and weathering — ensuring your building stays strong and looks its best for years to come.
10-Year Anti-Rot Guarantee
Our standard coated buildings come with a 10-year anti-rot guarantee as standard, giving you complete peace of mind that your investment is protected.
To keep your guarantee valid, you must:
- Apply a good-quality timber treatment within 3 months of installation, and
- Continue to re-treat your building every 12 months thereafter.
This simple maintenance routine prevents fungal attack and decay, helping your building perform and look great throughout its life.
15-Year Anti-Rot Guarantee (Tanalised Buildings)
For even greater protection, our tanalised (pressure-treated) buildings come with a 15-year anti-rot guarantee.
This enhanced longevity is achieved through a deep pressure treatment process, which forces preservative chemicals into the timber for long-lasting protection against rot, mould, and insect attack — even in harsh weather conditions.
While no annual brush-on treatment is required for rot protection, we still recommend applying a water-repellent wood oil or treatment periodically to maintain the colour and finish of your building.
At DSB, we make owning your new timber building simple with our professional assembly service, available across most of the UK. Whether you've chosen a timber garage, workshop, carriage house, stable, field shelter, or garden building, our experienced installation teams ensure everything is assembled correctly, safely, and to the highest standard — saving you time, effort, and ensuring a perfect finish.
Professional Installation, Done Right
Our expert fitters take care of the entire installation process, assembling your building efficiently and with precision. With years of hands-on experience, they ensure every panel, roof section, door, and window is aligned and secured for a strong, long-lasting result. Where possible, installation is carried out at the time of delivery, keeping the process smooth and straightforward from start to finish.
Access Requirements
To ensure a smooth delivery and installation, please check the following access guidelines:
- Vehicle access: Our delivery vehicles require approximately 8ft 6" width clearance to access your property safely.
- Access to the installation area: A minimum of 3ft clear width and 8ft height is required from the unloading point to the installation site.
- Access routes should be clear, level, and free from obstacles, allowing our team to safely carry building components by hand.
- If access involves tight corners, steps, slopes, or narrow passageways, please let us know when ordering. We can often accommodate difficult access with prior notice, although an additional charge may occasionally apply.
If you're unsure whether access is suitable, our friendly team will be happy to advise before you place your order.
Base Requirements
A strong, level base is essential for a successful installation. We recommend one of the following options:
- Concrete base – ideal for garages, workshops, carriage houses and larger buildings.
- Paving slab base – suitable for most timber buildings when laid level and securely.
- Timber frame base – a practical solution where concrete is not suitable.
- Railway sleeper footing – a popular alternative offering excellent support and stability.
Your base must be level, firm, and completed before installation. An uneven or poorly prepared base can affect the alignment, operation, and long-term performance of your building. If you need advice on preparing your base, our team will be happy to help before delivery.
Before Installation
Please ensure the site is ready for our fitters before they arrive:
- The installation area must be clear, accessible, and free from obstructions such as garden furniture, waste materials, overhanging branches, or stored items.
- Any electrical, plumbing, drainage, or additional groundwork should be completed after installation, unless otherwise agreed.
Booking Your Assembly
Our assembly service can be selected in the options above when configuring your building. Once your order has been confirmed, our team will contact you to arrange delivery and installation, keeping you informed throughout the process and ensuring everything runs as smoothly as possible.
Craftsmanship, innovation, and heritage come together to create strong, premium timber buildings.
Our story dates back to 1945, when our great-grandfather began producing sectional timber buildings known for their durability and quality. Building on that tradition, the next generation took things further — in 1965, our father established his own company, dealing in second-hand poultry houses. These structures quickly became sought after as robust, affordable garden buildings, loved for their strength and value.
As demand grew, he recognised the need to manufacture new timber buildings, marking a bold step forward in the business. By the late 1970s, the company was supplying a wide range of sectional buildings across the UK, including those used as site huts and work shelters. Over time, our reputation for dependable construction and practical design became firmly established, earning the trust of customers nationwide.
When portable buildings began to dominate the market in the mid-1980s, we evolved again — expanding our range to include garden sheds, garages, field shelters, and stables, continuing our reputation for quality and reliability. Each new product reflected our commitment to combining traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques and materials.
Today, that same pioneering spirit drives Direct Sectional Buildings. Even after the passing of our father in 2022, his legacy of hard work, honesty, and attention to detail remains at the heart of everything we do. The business is now proudly run by his sons, who have been involved from the time they could walk — growing up around the workshop, learning the trade from the ground up, and understanding every aspect of the business inside out. Their lifelong experience ensures the same family values and craftsmanship continue to guide every building we create.
With over 75 years of experience and four generations of family craftsmanship, we’re proud to deliver strong, reliable, and beautifully built timber buildings — made in Britain and built to last.
Built to last. Built on heritage. Built by Direct Sectional Buildings.
